The evidence for efficacy of family‐based approaches for psychological problems is extensive, although model‐specific effects have not been established. However, implementation of family therapy approaches in tertiary mental health settings has been challenging due to factors such as negative staff attitudes and difficulties engaging families. Open Dialogue is an emerging network‐based therapy that has a focus on genuine collaboration, flexibility, authenticity, and openness. This study describes the experiences and perspectives of clinicians, service users and families, following training in Open Dialogue, within a child and adolescent mental health service, and an adolescent inpatient unit in public mental health services. A total of 16 participants (11 clinicians and five service users and family members) took part in semi‐structured interviews regarding their experiences with Open Dialogue. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to analyse interview transcripts. Four major themes were identified from interviews with clinicians: valuing responses from families, learning from families and privileging their expertise, hesitation about doing family therapy, and engaging with authenticity and flexibility. Three themes emerged from family interviews: hesitation about doing family therapy, valuing collaboration and openness, and opening space for more talk. These themes are relevant to challenges of family therapy in public mental health settings and future directions for implementation.

Over the past decade, there has been considerable growth in knowledge translation research, yet there remains a 'knowledge gap' when applying this knowledge to policy (Fafard & Hoffman, 2018) and practice (Graham et al., 2006; Reid et al., 2017). Further, despite the rapid increase in domestic violence research over the past decade, there remains a dearth of studies evaluating knowledge translation activities, suggesting an urgent need to maximise the knowledge translation capacity of domestic violence research. Many different terms associated with knowledge translation are used interchangeably such as 'knowledge translation', 'knowledge-to-action', 'knowledge mobilisation' or 'translational research' (Graham, 2013). In Australia, the term 'knowledge translation' is often (but not always) used, whereas in the UK the term 'knowledge mobilisation' is more common. In Canada where the term originated, the term 'knowledge translation' is used but equally 'knowledge to action' and more recently 'integrated knowledge translation'

Zusammenfassung Mit dem Programm evidenzbasierter Bildungsreform geht die Erwartung einher, auf der Grundlage gesicherten empirischen Wissens die pädagogische Praxis ebenso wie ihre politische Gestaltung zu verbessern. Empirische Studien bestätigen allerdings ebenso wie Erfahrungsberichte aus dem Feld eine fortdauernde Kluft zwischen Forschung, Politik und Praxis. Daher findet Implementationsforschung wachsende Aufmerksamkeit, ablesbar an einer wachsenden Zahl empirischer Studien und einer breiten konzeptuellen und methodologischen Debatte.
