Abstract: Background: This study evaluated pregnancy outcome in women with a prosthetic heart valve, especially with the oral anticoagulation therapy that must be weighed against the risk of intracardiac thrombosis. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, cohort study was undertaken between January 2012 and June 2017. The principal maternal outcome variables included bleeding and thromboembolic complications, infective endocarditis, prosthetic valve thrombosis and heart failure. “…29 In contrast, our study only reported SMM events that are highly morbid, and on the pathway to death, with an SMM rate of 14%. In 2 studies, based on referral center data, the reported rate of adverse cardiac events was 16.9% 29 and 13.4%, 30 both higher than the 10% rate in our study (Table 4). This difference may be explained by patient selection, baseline risk, access to care, and the definition used for an adverse cardiac event.…”

“…Two studies reported only the noncardiac conditions of preeclampsia and hemorrhage, thereby likely underestimating maternal morbidity. 10,30 The third study reported a much higher rate of adverse obstetric events by including assisted vaginal and cesarean births therein. 29 In contrast, our study only reported SMM events that are highly morbid, and on the pathway to death, with an SMM rate of 14%.…”

“…We have recently read with great interest the article by Ranjan et al 1 entitled “ Impact of prosthetic heart valves on pregnancy in Bangladeshi women .” The authors reported the study of the clinical results of mechanical and bioprosthetic valves were compared in pregnant women with prosthetic heart valves. We congratulate the authors for their high clinical value study in such a high-risk group of patients.…”
