“…This indicates that the course has only positive effects, especially for participants with a lower perception of individual health status. Similar data, collected during the COVID-19 pandemic-related lockdown, have been recently reported for another university population: Rivera et al found that, for the university students who were more sedentary before the lockdown, the health promotion intervention showed the highest values for increasing the PA level [ 4 ].…”

“…The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a radical and rapid change in university life, with particular regard to the massive adoption of remote teaching methods and telework. This can have a relevant impact on the lifestyles of both workers and students, increasing sedentariness and possibly other unhealthy behaviors, including unhealthy nutrition, alcohol consumption and the avoidance of physical activity (PA) [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. Nevertheless, there are also a few exceptions, with reports demonstrating no significant changes in the PA level among university students during the COVID-19 related lockdown [ 6 ].…”

“…Regular physical activity (PA) has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular, muscular, and nervous systems, improving physical health and mental well-being [ 53 , 54 , 55 , 56 ]. Unfortunately, a recent study showed that PA levels decreased while sedentary behavior simultaneously increased during the first phases of the COVID-19 pandemic due to social distancing and lockdown [ 8 , 34 , 47 , 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 ]. Furthermore, research showed that negative changes in health-related behavior (including PA) were associated with more symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress [ 60 , 65 , 66 ].…”

“…Studies report mixed results regarding changes in university students' lifestyle behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Systematic literature reviews conclude that physical activity levels have decreased among university students in general, except among those who already met minimum recommendations before the pandemic [23,24]. Changes in physical activity levels among university students during the pandemic do not only impact physical health but has also been shown to be associated with psychological distress [25].…”
