Impact of coronary intensive care unit in treatment of myocardial infarction

Abstract: Summary Introduction: The mortality rate attributed to ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has decreased in the world. However, this disease is still responsible for high costs for health systems. Several factors could decrease mortality in these patients, including implementation of cardiac intensive care units (CICU). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of CICU implementation on prescribed recommended treatments and mortality 30 days after STEMI. Method: We performed a retrospe… Show more

“… 1 , 2 Coronary care unit (CCU) was established in the late 1960s to reduce mortality after acute myocardial infarction by detecting and actively treating arrhythmia, and to provide clinical laboratories for the research and treatment of acute coronary syndrome. 3 , 4 Killip et al reported that after the use of CCU reduced the mortality rate by nearly 20%, and then CCU has been widely used and evolved into a modern CCU. 5 The CCU is staffed with professionals and equipped with facilities to treat severe CVD patients.…”
