“…Out of 31 cases studied 5 had a demonstrable circulating antibody against basement membrane suggesting that cicatricial pemphigoid is related to bullous pemphigoid. We were unable to confirm this finding but demonstrated deposition of one or more classes of immunoglobulins and complement (also found in 22 out of 30 cases studied by Holubar et al 1973, Dantzig 1973, Griffith et al 1974, Tagami & Imamura 1974and Bean 1974. Like Dantzig (1973) we also showed deposition of C3 around sweat ducts although the significance of this finding is not clear.…”

“…There have been five publications concerning the immunofluorescent findings in cicatricial pemphigoid (Holubar et al 1973, Dantzig 1973, Griffith et al 1974, Tagami & Imamura-1974, Bean 1974. “…In CP, several authors have recently reported the in vivo deposition of Ig and C in the BM region of the involved mucosa and skin in the same linear pattern as in BP [1,8,9]. However, in contrast to BP, IgA has been found nearly as frequently as IgG [10,13,22] and also IgM has been demonstrated in a relatively high number of the cases [22], The uninvolved skin was only positive in a low number of cases [2,24].…”

“…Histopathology reveals a subepidermal blister and a lymphocytic infiltrate in the upper dermis with eosinophils and sometimes neutrophils. DIF shows IgG- and C3c-deposition along the BMZ, but also IgA-, IgM-, and fibrin-deposition can be found (27, 28). Various autoantigens have been found in MMP including BP180 (BPAG2), BP230 (BPAG1), laminin 332, α6/β4 integrin, and laminin 6 (29).…”
