Immobilization of polyoxometalate on aminosilane-modified silicate: Synthesis, characterization and antibacterial performance

Abstract: This paper presents studies on the immobilization of the polyoxometalate (H5PV2Mo10O40) on aminosilanemodified silicate as a new barrier of biological toxicant. The polyoxometalate-doped aminosilane-modified silicate (Ormosil/POM hybrid and Ormosil + POM blend) were synthesized by an in situ sol–gel route under acidic conditions. The physical properties of the samples were examined using NMR, SEM, XPS and TGA spectroscopy. The results indicated that POM was immobilized in channels by covalent linkages with th… Show more

“…AgNPs are closely related to antimicrobial ability, which depends on the AgNPs content in Pc-Ormosil. Compared with the results of our previous literature [7,8,22], the AgPc-Ormosil/Ag composites exhibit better antimicrobial properties than Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − )/Ag, Ormosil/POM, and Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − )/POM. These results may be due to the relatively small and uniform distribution of AgNPs in the AgPc-Ormosil/Ag composites.…”

“…Recently, several antibacterial nanomaterials were reported due to their superiority of antibacterial ability with drug-resistant and drug-loading capacity with sustained release 15 - 17 . The release of antimicrobial agents such as metallic ions is a valid method 18 , 19 . Because of the multiple antibacterial mechanisms aiming at the structure and physiological processes of bacteria, the NPs based antibacterial agents exhibit sustained broad-spectrum antibacterial effects 20 .…”

“…In particular, the covalently modified POMs with organic pendants exhibited high stability under physiological conditions, providing an attractive strategy for improving their biological distribution [116] . Wu et al used aminosilane-modified silicates as surface modifiers and stabilizers for POMs nanoparticles, inhibiting the growth of multiple bacteria and preventing aggregation [117] . The folding of polypeptides in POM-peptide materials (POMlymers) facilitated the self-assembly of nanomaterials in a specific environment.…”
