Immediate Adhesive Properties to Dentin and Enamel of a Universal Adhesive Associated With a Hydrophobic Resin Coat

Abstract: Multi-mode adhesives may be optimized when they are used as self-etch adhesives on dentin with a separate enamel etching step. SUMMARYObjectives: To evaluate the effect of acid etching and application of a hydrophobic resin coat on the enamel/dentin bond strengths and degree of conversion (DC) within the hybrid layer of a universal adhesive system (G-Bond Plus [GB]).Methods: A total of 60 extracted third molars were divided into four groups for bondstrength testing, according to the adhesive strategy: GB appli… Show more

“…The findings reinforce the view that acidic conditioners may not be sufficiently strong to etch sclerotic dentin, so bonding to this type of dentin may require a different pre treatment 3,9,15 . For instance, use of hypochloric acid before mild self-etch adhesive application can significantly improve microtensile bond strength on caries-affected dentin and the increased bond strength is associated with more regular monomeric infiltration into caries-affected dentin 18 .…”

“…However, these results are not supported by findings obtained with two mild self-etch adhesives (Aqua Bond and Tyrian SPE), which showed higher results on caries-affected dentin 9 Although Single Bond Universal in the self-etch approach was not compared with another self-etch adhesive, the present results imply that bond strength depends on dentinal condition. Use of a hydrophobic resin coat before composite resin placement may increase bond strength of self-etch adhesives on normal dentin 3 . In this perspective hydrophobic resin coats might not be efficient on caries-affected dentin because of the fragility of the subsuperficial layer, which is poorly impregnated by adhesive monomers 1,15,18 .…”

“…These adhesives are easier to use compared to multi-step etch-and-rinse (ER) adhesives. Also, they have a faster application procedure and require less technical sensitivity [12,13] . The SE technique enables ease of application and reduces contamination with saliva through reducing procedure steps, particularly in children who are difficult to cooperate [14,15] .…”

“…Perdigão et al 29 em 2014, verificaram as propriedades adesivas imediatas em dentina e em esmalte do adesivo universal associado a uma camada hidrofóbica de resina. Os autores observaram aumento da resistência adesiva dos adesivos, tanto do autocondicionante quanto do convencional.…”
