We propose the novel idea of interoperator fixedmobile network sharing, which can be software-defined and readily-deployed. We study the benefits which the sharing brings in terms of resiliency, and show that, with the appropriate placement of a few active nodes, the mean service downtime can be reduced more than threefold by providing interoperator communication to as little as one optical network unit in one hundred. The implementation of the proposed idea can be carried out in stages when needed (the pay-as-you-grow deployment), and in those parts of the network where high service availability is needed most, e.g., in a business district. While the performance should expectedly increase, we show the resiliency is brought almost out of thin air by using redundant resources of different operators. Requirement of multiple services from the customers has compelled the wireless service providers (WSPs) to maintain multiple radio access networks (RANs) of different radio access technologies (RATs). Further, dynamic spectrum allocation (DSA) approach offers a great opportunity to the WSPs to utilize their available spectrum in more efficient manner. As the growth of demand for wireless services is expected to continue unabated, the WSPs may also face a scenario in which, spectrum demands from the RANs is more than the availability of spectrum with the WSP.In this work, we have addressed this limited spectrum availability scenario in the composite wireless network (CWN) considering realistic constraints such as different propagation characteristics of channels at different spectrum region and discrete channelizations of the RANs. The problem has been posed as a bankruptcy game and Shapley value solution of the game has been computed. For maintaining the fairness of spectrum allocation, maximizing equality of distribution (MED) is considered to be the objective of the WSPs. Subsequently, we have proposed simulated annealing (SA) based spectrum allocation solution that would maximize the objective. Our simulation result shows that the SA based solution outperforms existing solutions such as Shapley value and max-min fairness by wide margin as far as objective MED in concerned.

Cognitive radio is an essential technology to overcome fixed spectrum allocation problems and improve its use through dynamic spectrum access techniques. Spectral decision-making is a function of the cognitive cycle that aims to choose the best spectral alternative among a set of finite possibilities. An inadequate process of decision-making can significantly affect the network parameters. Therefore, it is important to determine the best strategy and if this decision making should be collaborative. The present research analyzes the performance of failed handoff rate according to the amount of information shared between secondary users. The aforementioned information corresponds to the spectral occupancy for the GSM frequency band, that is characterized by a set of users and five levels of collaboration, 10%, 20%, 50%, 80% and 100%, where each level represents the percentage of users are part of the training model implemented. The decision-making process is carried out by using two multi-criteria techniques: Feedback Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchical Process (FFAHP) and Simple Additive Weighting (SAW). Based on the obtained percentage ratios and the information shared, it is determined that for the given number of failed handoffs, the level of collaboration that leads to efficient results is between 20% and 50%.
