Abstract: The enzyme serine-palmitoyltransferase (SPT) catalyses the rate limiting step for the de novo synthesis of sphingolipids and ceramides. SPT is believed to be a heterodimer composed of two subunits-SPTLC1 and SPTLC2. Here, we report the identification of a third SPT subunit (SPTLC3) with a size of 63 kDa and 80% homology to the SPTLC2 subunit.
