Identification of potential genotypes of fenugreek in rainfed vertisols for yield and diosgenin content

Abstract: The present study was undertaken for three years to evaluate thirteen promising genotypes from India for both yield and diosgenin content. Maximum yield was recorded in genotype LFC-103 (584.1 kg ha -1 ) followed by HM-348 (542.8 kg ha -1 ). The diosgenin content in the studied genotypes varied significantly, similar observations were recorded with the diosgenin productivity. Local cultivar recorded significantly highest diosgenin content (0.92 %). The highest diosgenin productivity was recorded with UM-364 (… Show more

“…The wide variation in growth parameters of all the genotypes might be due to their genetic makeup, which indirectly govern the morphology of the plant. These results are in conformity with the finding of Phom et al (2014), Kumar et al (2015), Gurjar et al (2016) and Giridhar et al (2016) in fenugreek.…”

“…The research on genotype can select the high quality crop as systematic method of crop development in the future (Chowdhury et al, 2020). The genotype advantage correlated with wide adaptation and growth strength in the rain fed conditions (Giridhar et al, 2016). Rochana et al (2016) states that crude protein is very important for the life and ruminants growth.…”
