Identification of Metals (Heavy and Radioactive) in Drinking Water by an Indirect Analysis Method Based on Scale Tests

Abstract: The analysis of water quality, regarding the content of metals, especially heavy and radioactive ones, has been carried out in an indirect way, by testing scale formed in a hot-water heater, using water from the water-supply network of the city of Belgrade – the district of New Belgrade. The determination of the composition and the structure of the scale has resulted in its complete identification, and its crystallochemical formula has been defined. It has unequivocally been established that the obtained resul… Show more

“…More than 70.15% of the samples (Table 6) Zinc is one of the important trace elements that play a vital role in the physiological and metabolic process of many organisms. Nevertheless, higher concentrations of zinc can be toxic to the organism (Rajkovic et al, 2008). It plays an important role in protein synthesis and is a metal which shows fairly low concentration in surface water due to its restricted mobility from the place of rock weathering or from the natural sources (Rajappa et al, 2010).…”

“…The reduction in the fluorescence intensity has been brought to the lowest degree possible by the technique of "standard addition" after the extraction of uranium by the synergetic mixture TOPO (three-n-octal phosphine oxide) ethyl acetate. The fluorescence intensity has been determined by means of the Fluorimeter 26-000 Jarrel Ash Division (Fisher Scientific Company, Waltham, 1978) [17][18][19][20][21][22].…”
