Abstract: Abstract:The objectives of this study are to use a clustering technique to identify homogeneous rainfall regions in the watersheds of the eastern region of the state of Paraná and to associate the spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall with the influences of orography, the ocean and regional atmospheric dynamics. Rainfall data were obtained from 54 pluviometric stations and from eight meteorological stations, which comprise the historical series from 1976 to 2015. A cluster analysis technique was used w… Show more

“…Many studies have opted for cluster analysis in identifying homogeneous rainfall regions, e.g., Terassi et al [23], Lyra et al [24], Goyal et al [25] and Oliveira-Junior et al [26]. However, the approaches and the algorithms used to perform the cluster analysis are inherently different.…”

“…The delimitation of regions with similar hydrometeorological conditions involved a statistical analysis of the data observed in the study area [32,33] by means of the regionalization method suggested by Hosking and Wallis [34]. This method defines statistical parameters similarly to the traditional L-moments, which, in turn, involves the calculation of the β estimators (Equations (5)-(8)).…”

“…The identi cation HRRD can serve as a support for mitigating the impacts caused by the rainfall. HRRD are regions that have statistical similarities in the distribution of rainfall over a long period of time (Hosking and Wallis, 1997;Terassi and Galvani, 2017).…”
