Identification, functional gastrointestinal stability and molecular docking studies of lentil peptides with dual antioxidant and angiotensin I converting enzyme inhibitory activities

Abstract: The objective was to identify peptides with dual antioxidant and angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activities released from lentil proteins by Savinase®. The influence of gastrointestinal digestion on peptide bioactivity was also assayed. Fragments from vicilin, convicilin and legumin were the most abundant peptides identified. Peptides LLSGTQNQPSFLSGF, NSLTLPILRYL, TLEPNSVFLPVLLH showed the highest antioxidant (0.013-1.432μmol Trolox eq./μmol peptide) and ACE inhibitory activities (IC=44-120μM)… Show more

“…Meanwhile, single peptides with multifunctional bioactivities will be more preferred over single activity peptides as the former would simultaneously elicit multiple health benefits. For this reason, García-Mora et al [170] hydrolyzed lentil proteins using Savinase ® (Novozymes, Bagsvaerd, Denmark) to search for peptides with multiple functions. They observed that peptides LLSGTQNQPSFLSGF, NSLTLPILRYL and TLEPNSVFLPVLLH present in the hydrolysate had strong antioxidant and antihypertensive effects.…”

“…Sheep have also been demonstrated to benefit from microalgae as a protein source, with lambs reported to have increased average daily gains upon consumption of 10 g of Spirulina per day [170]. Similarly, Spirulina diet supplementation increased the feed intake of rabbits, as well as improve the quality of rabbit meat with higher levels of GLA [171].…”
