Identification and Molecular Characterization of a Novel Partitivirus from Trichoderma atroviride NFCF394

Abstract: An increasing number of novel mycoviruses have been described in fungi. Here, we report the molecular characteristics of a novel bisegmented double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) virus from the fungus Trichoderma atroviride NFCF394. We designated this mycovirus as Trichoderma atroviride partitivirus 1 (TaPV1). Electron micrographs of negatively stained, purified viral particles showed an isometric structure approximately of 30 nm in diameter. The larger segment (dsRNA1) of the TaPV1 genome comprised 2023 bp and containe… Show more

“…In addition, dsRNAs have also been detected in some populations of Trichoderma spp., as a causing agent of green mold disease in mushrooms in Korea [44]. Recently, more mycoviruses have been detected in T. atroviride [45,46], T. harzianum [46], and T. asperellum [47]. Within these reports, one research showed that infection by Trichoderma harzianum partitivirus 1 (ThPV1) may increase the antifungal activity of T. harzianum [46].…”

Within these reports, one research showed that infection by Trichoderma harzianum partitivirus 1 (ThPV1) may increase the antifungal activity of T. harzianum [46]. However, the effects of ThPV1 infection on the biocontrol efficacy of T. harzianum remains unknown.…”

“…Moreover, an unclassified dsRNA mycovirus isolated from T. atroviride NFCF028 was annotated as Trichoderma atroviride mycovirus 1 (TaMV1) [ 15 ]. Complete genome sequencing of dsRNA viruses from T. atroviride NFCF394 and T. harzianum NFCF319 identified Trichoderma atroviride partitivirus 1 (TaPV1) and Trichoderma harzianum partitivirus 1 (ThPV1) as novel mycoviruses of the family of Partitiviridae [ 16 , 17 ]. More recently, five novel mycoviruses, i.e., Trichoderma asperellum dsRNA virus 1 (TaRV1) [ 18 ], Trichoderma harzianum mycovirus 1 (ThMBV1) [ 19 ], Trichoderma harzianum mycovirus 1 (ThMV1) [ 20 ], Trichoderma harzianum hypovirus 1 (ThHV1) [ 21 ], and the new (+)ss RNA hypovirus Trichoderma harzianum hypovirus 2 (ThHV2) [ 22 ], were identified.…”

“…Pittosporum cryptic virus 1 was identified from an Italian pittosporum plant by NGS with extracted dsRNA [6]. Similarly, application of NGS to extracted dsRNA has resulted in identification of Trichoderma atroviride partitivirus 1 from the fungal species Trichoderma atroviride [7].…”
