Fomitopsis pinicola in healthful dietary approach and their therapeutic potentials

Abstract: Certain macrofungi species have been used for medical purposes and as nutrients since the old times. The present study aims to determine and compare total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI) values, and Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb, and Ni levels in Fomitopsis pinicola (Sw.) P. Karst samples gathered in Balıkesir province Kazdağı National Park and Yalova province Çınarcık Hasan Baba Woods in Turkey. TAS, TOS, and OSI values of mushroom samples were measured with Rel Assay kits.… Show more

“…16 In the present study, antioxidant potential of both mushroom species were determined. Thus, both TAS and TOS values of H. leucomelaena were found to be higher than that of S. [17][18][19][20] Compared to these studies, the TAS values of H. leucomelaena were higher than those of all the above mentioned mushrooms except O. olearius and the TAS value of S. coronaria was lower when compared to F. pinicola, G. pectinatum, P. eryngii and O. olearius. Also, It has been determined that the TOS values of the H. leucomelaena and S. coronaria mushroom are higher than the TOS values of the fungi in the literature.…”

“…According to previous studies, the TAS values of other medicinal mushrooms, such as Auricularia auricula and Trametes versicolor were found to be 1.010 and 0.820 mmol/L, TOS values of the same species were found to be 23.910 and 17.760 μmol/L, whereby OSI values 2.367 and 2.166, respectively (Akgül et al 2017). Moreover, TAS, TOS and OSI values for Fomitopsis pinicola were reported to be 1.44, 14.21 and 0.99, respectively (Sevindik et al 2017). In comparison to these studies, L. molle was found to have a higher TAS value compared to A. auricula, T. versicolor and F. pinicola .…”

“…As shown in Table 2, the TAS value of the mushroom ethanol extract was 1:854 ± 0:051 mmol/L. Studies that aimed to determine these values demonstrated that the TAS values in Tricholoma terreum, Coprinus micaceus, Pleurotus eryngii, Auricularia polytricha, A. auricular, Omphalotus olearius, Macrolepiota procera, Trametes versicolor, Geastrum pectinatum, and Fomitopsis pinicola were 0.38, 0.46, 1.93, 0.93, 1.010, 2.836, 2.823, 0.820, 1.278, and 1.57 mmol/L, respectively [40,41]. The reported TAS value for I. geotropa in our study was significantly lower compared to the reported values for P. eryngii, O. olearius, and M. procera mushrooms as determined in previous studies.…”
