Hydrophilic and Superhydrophilic Self-Cleaning Coatings by Morphologically Varying ZnO Microstructures for Photovoltaic and Glazing Applications

Abstract: Transparent, superhydrophilic materials are indispensable for their self-cleaning function, which has become an increasingly popular research topic, particularly in photovoltaic (PV) applications. Here, we report hydrophilic and superhydrophilic ZnO by varying the morphology for use as a self-cleaning coating for PV applications. Three different ZnO microstructures, such as ZnO nanorods (R-ZnO), ZnO microflowers (F-ZnO), and ZnO microspheres (M-ZnO), were developed by hydrothermal methods. The surface morpholo… Show more

“…Ambiguity in incentive implementation, non-availability of storage systems incentives, lack of consumer awareness and research studies are the reason behind this sluggish movement for rooftop PV application in India [162]. Dust accumulation, which reduces PV power generation, should also be taken care of as air quality in India can pose a negative impact [163][164][165].…”

“…Besides, Perovskite integrated into a building in northern latitude place where snow and rain are the most common phenomenon that should be considered before integration [255,256]. In the case of a hot climate and dust environment, how this technology will perform can be a significant investigating area before building integration [257][258][259][260][261][262][263] that must be a vital fact when considering PSC integration in BIPV.…”

“…Theoretically, TiO 2 -based self-cleaning coated GaAs and c-Si PV systems were evaluated, which showed a 4% efficiency improvement for c-Si and a 5% improvement for GaAs [121]. Morphologically different ZnO was found to possess super hydrophilic properties [122].…”
