Hydrolysis of Gallotannins by TwoAspergillus nigerStrains Isolated from a Model Preparation of Nimba Arishta

Abstract: Fractionation of the acetone extracts of the rhizomes of P. erecta and the aerial parts of A. xanthochlora was predominantly performed by a combination of column chromatography on Sephadex LH-20, MCI gel CHP 20P, and Fractogel TSK HW-40(S) using different solvent systems. Moreover, DCCC was applied to the prepurified fractions. We isolated two dimeric hydrolyzable tannins from P. erecta, namely laeviga tin B (38.4mg, 0.004%) (1) and laevigatin F(195.1 mg. 0.021%) (2). In Alchemillae herba we found agrimoniin (… Show more

“…A few reports exist regarding the changes of phyto constituents present in the poly herbal preparations for fermenting [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. The reports of only Sharanya et al [2] and Chandra et al [1,3,4] correlated the structural changes brought about to the chemicals present in the fermenting herbal soup to their changes in medicinal properties.…”

“…Also, geraniol was released during fermentation by the hydrolysis of geraniol disaccharides. Horsten et al (1990) studied hydrolysis of gallotannins by two Aspergillus niger strains isolated from a model preparation of nimba arishta. Although this investigation was not into the fermentation of any true Ayurvedic medicinal preparations, it mimicked partly the preparation of an arishta described in Ayurvedic classics.…”
