En este estudio se examinan, a partir de imágenes de satélite derivadas del sensor MODIS-Aqua, las climatologías mensuales de la temperatura superficial del mar (TSM), clorofila superficial (Chl-a) y su relación con el rotacional del esfuerzo del viento (Cross-Calibrate Multi-Plataform, CCMP) en la bahía de La Paz, ubicada en el suroeste del Golfo de California, una región con alta productividad biológica e importante variabilidad estacional. El ajuste armónico aplicado a las climatologías mensuales de estas variables indica un mejor ajuste con los constituyentes anual y semianual. La amplitud anual es la señal dominante tanto en la TSM como en la Chl-a y corresponde al ciclo estacional de calentamiento y enfriamiento en toda la bahía, asociado con la afluencia de aguas costeras ricas en nutrientes y el intercambio de agua entre la bahía y el Golfo de California. ABSTRACT. The bulk sedimentary δ15 N record of Alfonso Basin displayed changes both from a regional source possibly associated with changes in the isotopic signal of NO 3 -dissolved in Subsurface Subtropical Water and from a climate source governed by solar forcing (total solar irradiance) over the strength of the North American monsoon (i.e., rainfall), causing intermediate water suboxia and promoting denitrification in the basin. High values of bulk sedimentary δ 15 N (maximum of 14.5‰) agree with increases in land-derived organic matter (from -14.8% to 49.2%) and with a decrease in terrigenous percentage (from 84.8% to 61.6%) during the Middle and Late Holocene, suggesting that increased rainfall and freshwater input promotes increased stratification of the water column, which inhibits vertical mixing and produces a reduction in oxygen content in an already oxygen-poor zone.Key words: Gulf of California, North American monsoon, laminated sediment record, nitrogen isotopes, Intertropical Convergence Zone. RESUMEN. El registro de δ15 N sedimentario de cuenca Alfonso mostró cambios tanto de origen regional, posiblemente asociados con cambios en la señal isotópica del NO 3 -en el Agua Subsuperficial Subtropical, como de origen climático, regidos por el forzamiento solar (irradiancia solar total) sobre la intensidad del monzón de Norteamérica (i.e., precipitación pluvial), lo cual provoca suboxia de aguas intermedias y promueve la desnitrificación en la cuenca. Valores altos de δ 15 N sedimentario (máximo de 14.5‰) coinciden con incrementos de la materia orgánica de origen terrestre (de -14.8% a 49.2%) y con una disminución del porcentaje de terrígenos (de 84.8% a 61.6%) durante el Holoceno medio y tardío, sugiriendo que un aumento en la precipitación y aporte de agua dulce ocasiona un aumento de estratificación de la columna de agua, lo cual inhibe la mezcla vertical y ocasiona la reducción en el contenido de oxígeno en la columna de agua, en una zona ya pobre en oxígeno.

Bacterial flora associated with commercial Octopus maya captured in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexic

Background: Octopus is a fishery product of economic importance worldwide, the main species caught on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea are Octopus maya and O. vulgaris, the first represents up to 95 % of national production. Goals: Identify the bacterial flora associated with commercial Octopus maya captured in the Yucatan Peninsula, using PCR-DGGE. Methods: From the metagenomic DNAs (mDNAs) extracted from samples representative of the octopus muscle, PCR products were synthesized with universal primers for bacteria (gc338F and 518R) and specific primers for Phylum Firmicutes (FirF: 369 and gcFirR: 1244). They were separated by electrophoresis in denaturing gradient gels (DGGE). The fragmented DNAs were recovered by elution, amplified (338F / 518R and FirF: 369 / FirR: 1244), sequenced and analyzed phylogenetically. Results: The sequences amplified with universal primers, after the DNA fragmentation by DGGE were associated with Psychrobacter urativorans, Psychrobacter sp, Pseudomonas sp, Pseudoalteromonas sp, Shewanella sp, Shewanella baltica, Klebsiella oxytoca, Vibrio aestuarianus, Photobacterium sp, Flavobacterium sp, F. antarcticum, Bizionia sp, Flavobacteriaceae bacterium, Bacillus sp, C. divergens, Cetobacterium somerae, Psychrilyobacter atlanticus, Salinimicrobium sp as well as, Flavobacteriaceae not yet classified. In the sequences amplified with specific primers (Phylum Firmicutes) were identified: Carnobacterium sp, Lactococcus piscium Lactococcus sp, and Vagococcus sp Conclusion: The bacterial genus detected have been reported in samples from marine environments; therefore, can be part of the native microbial diversity associated with commercial O. maya captured in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.
