Abstract: ObjectivesTo evaluate the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) types, and risk factors for HPV positivity across cervix, vagina and anus, we conducted a study among 138 women with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).GoalCompare the prevalence of different HPV types and the risk factors for HPV positivity in three sites.ResultsThe most frequently detected HPV types in all sites were, in decreasing order, HPV16, 53, 18, 61 and 81. Agreement between the cervix and vagina was good (kappa 0.60 – 0.80) for HPV16 … Show more

“…Fifty-one percent of anal specimens contained ‡ 1 HR-HPV genotype; 31% had abnormal anal cytology [14% ASC-US, 11% low-grade squamous intra-epithelial lesion, (LSIL); 2% atypical squamous cells-cannot exclude high-grade SIL (ASC-H); 4% high-grade SIL/cancer (HSIL + )]. In multivariate analysis, cervical LSIL + , nadir CD4 + T-cell count £ 50 cells/mm 3 , HIV-1 viral load ‡ 50 copies/mL, and anal HPV 6,11,16,18,33, 45, 52, 56, and 58 were associated with ‡ anal ASC-US ( p < 0.05). Abnormal anal cytology and HR-HPV prevalences were high.…”

“…17 Data on factors associated with abnormal anal cytology in HIV-infected women are scarce, particularly from low and middle-income countries. 8,[18][19][20] Very few studies in Brazil have documented the prevalence of anal HR-HPV genotypes and abnormal anal cytology in HIV-infected women. 18 19 To address this gap, we assessed anal HPV genotypes and factors associated with abnormal anal cytology in a cross-sectional study of a cohort of HIV-infected women in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.…”

“…Em pacientes sem imunodeficiências, entretanto, essa associação ainda não está esclarecida, o que pode contribuir para a falta de normas adequadas para diagnosticar o HPV e prevenir o câncer de ânus [4][5][6] . A frequência do câncer de ânus antes considerada baixa encontra-se atualmente em elevação considerá-vel, principalmente o carcinoma de células escamosas (CCE).…”
