Homogeneous hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of H 2 Ru(CO) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2
Abstract: The hydrogenation of ketones to alcohols in the presence of a hydrido ruthenium triphenylphosphine complex, H 2 Ru(CO) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 , has been investigated. Acetophenone was hydrogenated at 120°C with a conversion of 69% after 24 h. The yield is 85% working at 140°C. A kinetic investigation of the reaction was also performed: the reaction is first order with respect to the hydrogen pressure, substrate and catalyst concentration.
