Examined the category structure of “joy” and “shame” emotions. In this study the organization of emotions into abstract categories with a prototype structure based on family resemblances was proposed. Forty male introductory psychology students judged 56 slides of human faces (posed by other such students) as expressing either joy or shame and rated the degree of typicality of each face. Faces rated as more typical were recognized signicantly more quickly and accurately. Correlations between typicality and latency were also significant. More intense expressions of both emotion categories were rated as more typical of the category. A reliable instrument for future study of recognition of the two emotions was developed. The family resemblance‐prototype structure for emotion categories was supported.

Abstract. In recent times observed is a significant rise in the number of individuals having the amputation defects of lower limbs. It is greatly associated with the increase of injury accidents, especially among people of working age affected by the motor vehicle collisions, industrial accidents, natural and industrial disasters, military actions as well as everyday routine injuries.. Aim. Determine the effectiveness of the author's comprehensive program of the physical rehabilitation of the mature individuals with the amputation defects of a lower limb in the tibia area. Organization. The participants were a group of 86 mature individuals with stumps of a lower limb in the tibia area. They were involved in the traditional (43 individuals) and the author's (43 individuals) programs of physical rehabilitation. The forming pedagogical experiment was conducted on the outpatient basis during 2010-2013, located on private and government companies producing orthopedic prosthesis. Results. We observed the gradual impact of the integrated author program of the physical rehabilitation for individuals with the lower limb amputation defects (in the tibia area). It has been revealed that the adequate amounts of the daily exercises physical activity causes the positive effect to the adaptation processes of the main group individuals. This was also manifested in the improvement of their emotional state, the level of the physical activity and the increasing time spent walking with the prosthesis, and as a result helped to solve many issues of social, labor rehabilitation and regain employment. The main gains of the suggested comprehensive program of rehabilitation appear in a better recovery of the muscle strength of both a stumped and a healthy limb (24,1−29,1% and 23,2−31,8% with р≤0,05); the results of motor tests 46,6−368,2% with р≤0,05−0,01); the aerobic efficiency -15,0% of the baseline respectively. This paper presents evidence that American English speakers have access t o alternative cognitive structures of their own kinship system. The cognitive structure that is relevant at a given time is determined by context.In an earlier paper on American English kinship terms, Romney and DAndrade (1964:154) observed, "if individuals in a culture have alternative structures, it is possible that either different individuals have arrived at different cognitive structures, or that the same individual operates with alternative structures." We refer to the first concept as that of individual differences and t o the second as that of cognitive pluralism. Both concepts may be valid, but our research supports that of cognitive pluralism.Several empirical studies, utilizing multidimensional scaling techniques, have dealt with various factors related t o the question of whether there exists one or more than one cognitive structure for a given semantic domain. Among these have been papers examining shifts in the semantic context of lexical items (Kirk and Burton 1977), age-related developmental changes (Howard and Howard 1977), variations in the method of eliciting similarity judgments (Henley 1969;Fillenbaum and Rapoport 1971; Miller 1977;Hutchinson and Lockhead 1977), and cross-cultural comparisons of semantic structure (Romney and Magana 1976). The research reported in these papers strongly suggests that under certain conditions, such as those created by contextual shifts and developmental changes, differences obtain in how individuals conceive of the items in a domain, but that these can be accounted for by hypothesizing a single underlying structure.As stated by Henley in a study of the domain of animal terms:the finding that similar structures are elicited by differing methods of investigation is important to research in semantics. There has often been a tacit assumption that there is a single structure for a given semantic field, irrespective of method, but there has been little empirical evidence supporting it The results of the present experiment suggest that there is enough in common among different methods to support the view that a common semantic structure exists, irrespective of method, at least for such verbal items as were used here (Henley 1969:181-182, my emphasis
