Abstract:Bei vielen operativen Eingriffen ist deren medizinisch-historische Seite bis in das Altertum zu verfolgen. Aufzeichnungen über Versuche zur Wiederbelebung bei Herzstillstand finden sich dagegen nicht. Der Grund ist wohl darin zu suchen, daß im Altertum das Herz der Sitz des Lebensgeistes war und somit auch nicht erkranken konnte, es sei denn tödlich.
