Histological evaluation of direct pulp capping with novel nanostructural materials based on active silicate cements and Biodentine® on pulp tissue

Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of Biodentine® and two new nanostructured materials based on active silicate cements on exposed tooth pulp of Vietnamese pigs. The study comprised 40 teeth in two Vietnamese pigs (24 months old). After class V cavity preparation, the pulp on each tooth was exposed using a small round bur. The following materials were applied on pulp exposures: Biodentine® (10 teeth), ALBO MPCA-I (10 teeth), and ALBO MPCA-II (10 teeth). In the control group, exposed pulp was covere… Show more

“…Harmful effects are explained by the presence of small amounts of arsenic in the MTA material [12] which exceed the level recommended by the International Organization for Standardization [36][37][38][39]. is makes the present study, together with the previous biocompatibility studies of the new endodontic material ALBO-MPSA [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21], very important as they give evidence about safety of the new material which would be used in the future in dental practice as an alternative to more toxic currently available materials.…”

“…An analysis of hematological parameters of blood after 120 days revealed no significant differences between the experimental and control groups. ere was no myelotoxic effect or autoimmune effect on peripheral blood cells which may be due to the fact that that the tested material was not in contact with blood [13,22] but also due to the chemical composition of the material whose biocompatibility has already been confirmed in many studies [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Bismuth oxide is claimed as responsible for most of these downsides 22,23,24 . Therefore, a new formulation named Biodentine (Septodont, Saint Maur, France) has been lunched recently 25,26,27 . It contains calcium silicate, calcium carbonate, zirconium oxide instead of bismuth oxide added to improve material's radiopacity and calcium chloride added in liquid component to reduce its setting time 13,14 .…”

“…It has also the advantages of calcium silicates whose progressive hydration enables the transition of a hydrating cement paste from a fluid to a rigid material as a continuous process. Many biocompatibility aspects of tested cement have been already investigated at in vitro and in vivo conditions and compared to those of MTA [14][15][16][17][18][19][20], but their biocompatibility has to be further analyzed to assure absolute safety of application of this new material.…”
