“…The mammalian adrenal gland is composed of an outer cortex and inner medulla. However, in the present work, we found that the cortical (interrenal tissue) and the medulla (chromaffin tissue) were intermingled with each other in the Japanese quail, a finding that is in general agreement with the descriptions of avian adrenal glands by Luo (1983), Cronshaw, Holmes, Ely, and Redondo (1989), El‐Zoghby (2010), and Moawad and Randa (2017).…”

“…These tissues were differentiated into acidophilic and basophilic cells, according to the affinity of the cytoplasm and its granules, as reported by El‐Zoghby (2010) in Egyptian geese. On the other hand, other researchers have classified these tissues according to their location peripherally or centrally into cortical and medullary cells, respectively, such as Ghosh et al (2001), Humayun et al (2012), and Moawad and Randa (2017) in chicken; Gulmez, Kocamis, Liman, and Kukner (2004) in French geese; and Tang et al (2009) in African ostrich chicks. Although Hartman, Knouff, McNutt, and Carver (1947) and Hodges (1974) suggested that the cortex and the medulla of the gland can be renamed as the interrenal and chromaffin tissue, respectively, because of the avian adrenal gland, there is no definite cortex and medulla as in the mammalian adrenal gland.…”

“…This grouping resulted in definition of a resistant group (ΔT ≤ 2.5 °C) and a susceptible group (ΔT ≥ 6.5 °C). The control group and five roosters from each of the heat-stressed groups were sacrificed for adrenal gland collection 67 for protein expression and histone modification analysis.…”

(Luppova & Fedotov, 2009;Rybakov, 2018).…”
