Permasalahan terkait seringnya dijumpai para guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di Madrasah yang mengajar tidak sesuai kompetensinya, menuntut para guru tersebut untuk mengikuti program- program yang berorientasi pada pengembangan kompetensi pedagogik yang salah satunya adalah English Language Teachers Training (ELTT) yang dilaksanakan oleh Kedutaan Besar Amerika Serikat – Jakarta.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan program ELTT serta melihat peran program tersebut pada kompetensi pedagogik para guru Bahasa Inggris Madrasah & Pesantren di Provinsi Bengkulu.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengambilan data berupa wawancara, observasi dan teknik dokumentasi.Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat dua materi yang dipelajari oleh para guru dalam program ini, yaitu ELTeach dan Professional Knowledge (PK).Dalam hal partisipasi para guru, program ini menggunakan model pembelajaran hybriddan peserta dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok dengan dipimpin oleh para trainers.Para peserta tersebut menggunakan National Geographic Learning yang meliputi materi pembelajaran, praktik materi, dan penilaian sebagai platform pembelajaran.Program ELTT ini juga terbukti memberikan dampak yang positif bagi para guru dan siswa mereka di Madrasah, terutama dalam meningkatkan pengelolaan kelas, metode pengajaran yang lebih bervariasi, kemampuan guru dalam menciptakan konten yang lebih menarik, serta pembelajaran yang berbasis pada proses dan luaran

<span>Retention is the ability to retain information in the mind, either in short-term or long-term memory. Memory in the long-term is more ideal. Thus, this has become a challenge for educators on how to transfer ideas in short-term memory to long-term memory. To concretize the effect of time on mathematics learning retention, a randomized pre-test post-test x groups design, using matched subjects was used in the study. Seven matched groups of students were identified, and took the pre-test as the basis of the initial amount of learning, after which a group of students was assigned to take the post-test every week for seven weeks. The post-tests results were the basis of the amount of retained learning of the students. The study found out that: i) The amount of retained learning among the students diminished following a negative exponential curve; ii) The amount of retained learning was comparably equal with the initial amount of learning up to the second week; iii) The amount of retained learning became incomparable with the initial amount of learning after the third week; and iv) The concepts in the knowledge level had a great chance to be remembered while the concept with analysis level was prone to motivated forgetting.</span>

Indonesian students’ poor performance in the mathematics test of PISA 2015 prompted the decision by the Ministry of Education of Indonesia to pay more attention to the integration of higher-order thinking (HOT) in the curricula starting in 2018. This new regulation emphasizes the need to have a shared understanding of HOT in mathematics on many levels, such as curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment, and among students, teachers and policy makers. This study aims to examine HOT in Indonesian lower secondary mathematics classrooms by assessing students’ ability to demonstrate HOT skills through an open-ended mathematics problem, and by exploring teachers’ views of HOT skills through semi-structured interviews. It involved 372 ninth-grade students and six mathematics teachers from six lower secondary schools in Jakarta and Palembang. The findings show that most students could construct the mathematical model but experienced difficulty in transferring knowledge into new contexts, in applying creative thinking, and with information literacy skills. Besides, some of the teachers were familiar with the concept of HOT, but some viewed HOT as skills for talented students, or HOT problems having a high level of difficulty and long storylines. The knowledge of existing teaching strategies, familiarity with HOT problems, and colleague-support are needed to improve the development of HOT skills in the mathematics classroom.
