Needs analysis is vital in assessment instrument development because assessment is of paramount importance in teaching and learning. The phenomena of technology developments influence how assessment instruments must be developed to achieve the learning objectives and outcomes. The present study aimed at conducting a needs analysis of literacy assessment using blended learning for beginner EFL learners in Bali, Indonesia. The survey-style research was carried out involving 17 English teachers from 12 public junior high schools. A questionnaire, in-depth interviews, and a focused group discussion were used to collect the data. The data were descriptively analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study results revealed that the needs identified in assessment developments consist of the target needs that cover the necessities of assessments, including the assessment of learning, as learning, assessment for learning, wants and lacks. In addition, the learner needs in the form of authentic materials, technology-based materials, skills-based, and language inputs are all needed in developing instrument assessments. The activities and procedures for conducting assessments in the form of pedagogical and real-life tasks and procedures are required, in addition to the roles of the students as knowledge seekers, problem solvers, collaborators, critical thinkers, and creators. The identified needs were then used as the basis for the framework design. The needs analysis results conducted in this study are expected to inspire teachers in developing research-based assessment instruments in EFL instructions.

This study aims to analyze the implementation of pre-lesson reading activities, analyze the impact of pre-lesson reading activities on creative thinking skills, and analyze the constraints of pre-lesson reading activities on creative thinking skills. This research was conducted at State Elementary School 1 Karangduwur, Kebumen, Indonesia. Meanwhile, the subjects of this study were fifth-grade students. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique. The researcher chose the school because the school became a reference school for Kebumen Regency which had implemented the school literacy movement. The researchers employed observation, interview, test, and documentation techniques to collect data. Then, data analysis was carried out by applying the interactive analysis steps from Miles and Huberman. The steps taken include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results revealed that pre-lesson reading activities were implemented by maximizing the roles of principals, teachers, and students through monitoring, providing, mentoring, and evaluating programs. The impact of reading activities before class is to increase students' creative thinking skills with the highest order being originality, followed by fluency, elaboration, and finally flexibility. The obstacles encountered were the limited number of readings, limited time, lack of educational content, lack of student experience and low student understanding. These findings can be utilized as references and relevant studies for future researchers to conduct similar studies. Future researchers can analyze the implementation, impacts, and constraints in the classroom wall magazine, reading corner, or literacy tree program in elementary schools.

Life has been changing rapidly. Industrial Revolution 4.0 is developed for people to make a novelty. Education as one of the important parts of people’s life is needed to be prepared for every change to improve the teaching and learning system. This article discusses a study conducted by using developmental research with the development of the 4-D design. This study was a Study Room Blog that was conducted for students who could learn individually based on the previous research and only focused on web development or e-module. The advantage of this Study Room Blog was equipped with an evaluation of students’ scores that could be accessed by teachers. The study involved the students in Elementary School to see their reading literacy. Based on the validator assessment result, the average score from the validation of IT-Technology Experts was 80, which was categorized as good. And the average score from the validation of the Linguist was 81.17, which was categorized as very good. It means that the blog could be used in the teaching and learning activity. After obtaining the validation assessment result from validators, then, this study room blog was applied by using a limited try-out which was applied in two classes, the experimental and control classes. In the experimental class, the average score of pre-test result was 50.71 which increased to the average score of post-test result, 80.9. In the control class, meanwhile, the average score of pre-test result was 60.57 which increased to the average score of post-test result, 75.89. Thus, the use of the study room blog was increasingly effective in learning reading literacy. It means that the study gives a contribution to the teacher and students in increasing reading literacy through the Study Room Blog as an interactive media in teaching and learning activities.
