Abstract: Summary Different stocking densities were investigated in larviculture and feeding of Lophiosilurus alexandri, as well as analyses of the effects on juveniles of two size‐classes and two different commercial formulated diets. The first experiment was two‐phased: (a) larvae stocked at densities of 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 larvae L−1 fed with Artemia nauplii and reared for 15 days; (b) in phase 2, densities of 5, 10, 15, 30, and 40 juveniles L−1 were evaluated during feed training (20 days). Mean water tempera… Show more

“…Density can affect growth, survival and behaviour, in addition to the occurrence of cannibalism, during larviculture (de Barros et al., 2019; Luz & Zaniboni, 2002; Melard et al., 1996; Slembrouck et al., 2009; Sukumaran et al., 2011; Zalina et al., 2011). However, different densities have been found not to affect growth and survival differently during larviculture for some species in intensive production systems as Lophiosilurus alexandri between 20 and 60 larvae/L (Luz & Santos, 2008), and between 60 and 300 larvae/L (Cordeiro et al., 2016); Oreochromis niloticus between 1 and 30 larvae/L (Luz et al., 2012); and Rhinelepis aspera between 20 and 60 larvae/L (Santos et al., 2012), indicating that the use of adequate management strategies can favour the intensification of larviculture.…”
