PLATES LXVIII-LXXIX SINCE they were first described by Spencer (1892), haemorrhagic lesions of the adrenal gland have been given many names and Symington (1969) lists five synonyms (of which haemorrhagic necrosis is one) that have been used at different times. In the perinatal period, adrenal haemorrhage, to use another of the synonyms, is thought to be a relatively uncommon lesion and many texts stress its association with either systemic infections (Kissane and Smith, 1967) or birth trauma (Stowens, 1966). Others have discussed the role of anoxia (Gruenwald, 1955;Morison, 1963).This paper presents our experience of this lesion in perinatal infants, and draws on personally studied cases and the records of the Department of Pathology of the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.
