A Case of Optic Disc Angioma

“…I n his "Tumors of the Eye" Reese (1963) emphasizes that von Hippel's disease may manifest itself as an angioma of the disc instead of the retina, although this is not generally appreciated. I n the cases reported by Carr SC Stallard (1933), Cross (1943), Souders (1949), Wallner & Moorman (1955), Manschot (1968), and Thomas et al (1970) there were no neurological symptoms, and also in the present case the angioma was an isolated finding. …”

“…Among the 20 cases of angiomas on the optic disc or at the margin of the optic disc reported since 1933, only one case, Wallner & Moorman (1955), did not show progression, nor in the present case has there been any sign of progression. It is believable that some differences concerning pathogenesis, pathology, and prognosis may exist between those disc angiomas which show progression and those which do not.…”
