Heavy neutrinos and lepton flavor violation in left-right symmetric models at the LHC

Abstract: We discuss lepton flavour violating processes induced in the production and decay of heavy right-handed neutrinos at the LHC. Such particles appear in left-right symmetrical extensions of the Standard Model as the messengers of neutrino mass generation, and can have masses at the TeV scale. We determine the expected sensitivity on the right-handed neutrino mixing matrix, as well as on the righthanded gauge boson and heavy neutrino masses. By comparing the sensitivity of the LHC with that of searches for low en… Show more

“…Indeed neutrino masses could well be a low-scale phenomenon, both within the seesaw mechanism as well as other alternative approaches [9]. This brings in substantial freedom in model building, making the structure of the leptonic weak interaction much richer than the CKM matrix [10,11] characterizing the quark sector, and opening the exciting possibility of probing the associated neutrino mass messenger particles at collider experiments [12][13][14].Lepton number symmetry provides an important theoretical guide in neutrino mass modeling, depending on its fate different classes of models can be envisaged. For instance, lepton number can be conserved, leading to Dirac neutrinos.…”

“…Since the neutrinos in this case are Majorana fermions, they would give rise to neutrino-less double beta decay. In this case the collider phenomenology is similar to the conventional TeV scale left-right seesaw case [64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74]. Our goal in this paper is simply to demonstrate that getting small neutrino masses does not pose any challenge to the viability of these models.…”
