Black-odorous urban water bodies and sediments pose a serious environmental problem. In this study, we conducted microcosm batch experiments to investigate the effect of remediation reagents (magnesium hydroxide and calcium nitrate) on native bacterial communities and their ecological functions in the black-odorous sediment of urban water. The dominant phyla (Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Planctomycetes) and classes (Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, and Gammaproteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Anaerolineae, and Planctomycetia) were determined under calcium nitrate and magnesium hydroxide treatments. Functional groups related to aerobic metabolism, including aerobic chemoheterotrophy, dark sulfide oxidation, and correlated dominant genera (Thiobacillus, Lysobacter, Gp16, and Gaiella) became more abundant under calcium nitrate treatment, whereas functional genes potentially involved in dissimilatory sulfate reduction became less abundant. The relative abundance of chloroplasts, fermentation, and correlated genera (Desulfomonile and unclassified Cyanobacteria) decreased under magnesium hydroxide treatment. Overall, these results indicated that calcium nitrate addition improved hypoxia-related reducing conditions in the sediment and promoted aerobic chemoheterotrophy.

Bacteria are critical components of lake ecosystems, and understanding the characteristics of bacterial community structure and diversity indices is of significant importance for the analysis and management of lake ecology. In this study, overlying water samples were collected from Yangzong Lake in May, June, and July 2021. High-throughput sequencing and statistical analysis were employed to investigate the relationships between physicochemical factors, bacterial community structure, and diversity in the overlying water of Yangzong Lake. The results showed significant differences in oxidation-reduction potential among the sampling points. The order of oxidation-reduction potential was as follows: Yangzong DAHE > Yangzong Lake South > Yangzong Lake Middle > Yangzong Lake North, while other physicochemical factors exhibited minor differences. The number of OTUs and bacterial alpha diversity index in the overlying water of Yangzong Lake Middle were higher than those in Yangzong Lake North, Yangzong Lake South, and Yangzong DAHE. The dominant bacterial phyla in the overlying water were Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, and Proteobacteria. Actinobacteriota had the highest relative abundance of 34.63% in Yangzong Lake North, while Bacteroidota had the highest relative abundance of 33.79% in Yangzong Lake South, and Proteobacteria had the highest relative abundance of 27.29% in Yangzong Lake Middle. The dominant genera were hgcI_clade, CL500-29_marine_group, and Flavobacterium. Among them, hgcI_clade had the highest relative abundance of 37.56% in Yangzong Lake North, CL500-29_marine_group had the highest relative abundance of 35.22% in Yangzong Lake South, and Flavobacterium had the highest relative abundance of 42.02% in Yangzong Lake Middle. Correlation analysis revealed significant correlations between Campilobacterota at the phylum level and dissolved oxygen (DO) and total phosphorus (TP). At the genus level, Flavobacterium, Limnohabitans, and Pseudarcicella showed significant correlations with DO and TP.

It is a challenging issue to investigate the combined pollution of heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in urban soils. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentrations of these two pollutants in soils in Shenyang, Fushun, and Fushun New District, to analyze their distribution, and to assess their interaction and co-contamination levels. The concentrations of heavy metals were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), while the concentrations of 21 kinds of PAH were analyzed by GC-MS. Based on the analysis of pollution concentrations and distribution patterns, the intrinsic links between heavy metals and PAHs in three different cities were assessed using a variety of multivariate analysis methods. Compared to Shenfu New Distract, the concentration of pollutants in Shenyang and Fushun shows a higher level. Moreover, the results of RDA analysis of samples may quantify the possibility of combined pollution of different heavy metal elements and PAHs. This study also a rms the important role of multivariate analysis in being used to reveal the complex interactions and spatial distribution of different pollutants.
