Phenanthrene, a PAH with three fused benzene rings, is usually used as a model for the study on PAHs. During 4 days, 166 male mice were equally and randomly divided into two groups. One group was given vehicle-corn oil by oral gavage, the other was given phenanthrene at a dose of 450 milligrams per kilogram per day. In this study, in order to predict mice's phenanthrene poisoning by virtue of blood analysis indices, a new machine learning approach was put forward, which was based on an improved binary mothflame optimizer combined with extreme learning machine. The results of the experiment have manifested that the blood analysis indices of the control and phenanthrene groups were significantly different (p < 0.5). The most important correlated indices including serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), plateletcrit (PCT) and red blood cell distribution width-standard deviation (RDW-SD) were screened through feature selection. The classification results demonstrated that the proposed method can achieve 93.38% accuracy and 98.33% specificity. Promisingly, there is a new and accurate way to detect the status of phenanthrene poisoning expectably. The adverse effects of anthropogenic activities have led to increasing inorganic and organic contaminant levels in soil and vegetation in highly industrialized areas and megapolitan regions. In this study, the status of risk elements (As, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, V and Zn) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils of the medium-sized (100,000 inhabitants) city Hradec Králové (Czech Republic) was assessed. In total, 86 sampling points were established; we collected soil samples as well as the aboveground parts of the plant species dandelion (Taraxacum sect. Ruderalia) and doorweed (Polygonum aviculare), occurring at all sampling points. Elevated values of As (up to 51 mg/kg) and Cd (up to 3.0 mg/kg) were found in soils; the high mobility of Cd in these soils resulted in elevated Cd contents in T. sect. Ruderalia at several hotspots. The element contents, mobility and interrelationships in the soil, however, indicated mainly geogenic sources of these elements. Low PAH contents were found in the soils, suggesting a low environmental risk in this city, which is mainly due to the absence of industrial plants and high traffic density.

The development of geothermal energy promotes the changing of energy consumption structure in China. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the geothermal resources of Rucheng County, which is the largest geothermal field in Central South China. The experiments include geothermal exploration, apparent resistivity, and determining the geochemical characteristics of the geothermal water. The experimental results show that the F3 fault zone and F1 hanging wall secondary fault are the main thermal control, heat conduction, water diversion, and thermal storage structures. The pH, EC, and Eh of the river water, shallow groundwater, and geothermal water exhibit seasonal changes. The pH and EC of the geothermal water are higher than those of the river water and shallow groundwater, while the Eh is lower. In addition, the corrosivity coefficient Kk and the Ryznar index are used to evaluate the corrosivity and calcium carbonate scaling of the geothermal water, and it is found that the geothermal water has no corrosiveness or calcium carbonate scaling, which indicates that the geothermal energy in Rucheng County has wide application prospects.
