“…HIV patients on ART, who were living in urban residences were 4 times more likely to experience a better QoL as compared to HIV individuals on ART living in rural residences. A similar finding was observed in studies from Jimma Ethiopia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Uganda [4,9,14,18,20]. This might be associated with the presence of poor infrastructures, financial limitations as well as social stigma and bias in rural areas.…”

“…The World Health Organization (WHO) define QoL as "individuals' insight of their situation in life within the context of the culture and value, in which they live and in reference to their goals, standards, expectations, and concerns" [7,8]. During the past twenty years, QoL has become a significant outcome measure in medical and psychological research, and evaluations of latest treatments, and interventions to enhance healthcare require measurement of QoL [9]. QoL measures are becoming an integral part of patient follow-up, providing valuable feedback from patients' perspective on the disease and associated interventions [3].…”

“…Nevertheless, we noted the rising popularity of WHOQOL‐HIV BREF and EQ‐5D‐3L/EQ‐5D‐5L and declining use of MOS‐HIV. The WHOQOL‐HIV BREF was developed by the World Health Organization to capture quality‐of‐life cross‐culturally in PLHIV and is available in more than 20 languages, hence, its popularity may be explained by its extensive applicability across many cultural contexts [ 29 ]. WHO instruments are also one of the only HRQoL scales incorporating a spirituality domain.…”

“…Various studies reported that the psychological domain (5.99) [ 27 ], general health functioning (41.35±10.28) [ 28 ], role emotional (41.5±15.1) [ 29 ], environment domain (12.9±2.5) [ 30 ], and energy (60.6±23.3) [ 18 ] had the lowest HRQoL mean score. In Iran, HIV patients had low QoL in all health-related domains [ 31 ].…”

“…This finding discord with other studies conducted elsewhere in the world. Education was significantly correlated with all domains of HRQoL scores [ 30 ], and lower education was responsible for lower HRQoL [ 13 , 25 , 26 ]. Thus, it is not surprising that better educational status will yield good HRQoL as patients who have formal education might have superior knowledge regarding the disease, related opportunistic infections, and the medication, and become adherent [ 32 ].…”
