Headspace Gas Chromatographic Method for the Determination of Hydrogen Peroxide Residues in Bleaching Effluent

Abstract: A simple, rapid, accurate, and practical headspace gas chromatographic method is proposed for the determination of hydrogen peroxide residues in bleaching effluent. This method is based on the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with ceric sulfate, under acidic conditions, where hydrogen peroxide is converted to oxygen, which is then measured using headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) coupled with a thermal conductivity detector (TCD). The results show that a complete conversion of hydrogen peroxide to oxygen can be… Show more

“…All assays were performed in triplicates with 3 biologic replicates. H 2 O 2 was determined according to Liu et al 45 with titanium oxysulfate solution (Sigma). Acceptance of BOA-OH isomers as substrates for laccases and peroxidases were estimated by assays with the purchased enzymes.…”

“…Therefore, an accurate, sensitive, and rapid method for the determination of H 2 O 2 concentration is of great significance, especially in medical and industrial fields. Various methods have been used for H 2 O 2 detection, such as titration [7], chromatography [8], fluorescence [9], spectrophotometry [10], an electrochemical method [11], etc. However, some of these detection methods are limited due to their complex operation and high cost.…”

“…There are several techniques for detecting H 2 O 2 , such as titration [5], chromatography [6], spectroscopy [7,8], and electrochemical methods [9,10]. Various methods of detecting H 2 O 2 , such as electrochemical detection of H 2 O 2 , can be used to detect the concentration of H 2 O 2 at µM or even nM levels in solution and can also be quickly and effectively determined under harsh conditions.…”
