Hazards of Anaesthesia: A Comprehensive Review

Abstract

BACKGROUND A recent survey by WHO has revealed that 75% of the anaesthetists suffer from some kind of stress. Another study showed that 25% of professionals found to have substance abuse were anaesthetists. This implies that Anaesthesiology offers high occupational risk compared to other health care professionals. OBJECTIVES This articles aims to analyse the risks related to anaesthesia practice and measures to prevent and improve the degree of safety and quality of life at work. CONCLUSION The adverse effects of anaesthesia have decreased due to the increased vigilance by the Government and professionals. But it can be even further reduced by improved education and training to build knowledge and skills.
