Harnessing and Understanding Feedback Technology in Applied Settings

Abstract: Research on the influence of augmented feedback effects on both skill learning and performance has been examined from two differing positions, generally reflective of two core movement science disciplines: motor learning and biomechanics. The motor learning approach has been to examine the content and timing of feedback under tightly controlled laboratory settings, with a focus on simple tasks and the influence of movement outcome feedback. At the other end of the spectrum are biomechanical approaches, which h… Show more

“…Similarly, the successful transfer of skills (contexts that differ to training) is highly dependent on prior experience and the level of expertise developed [26][27][28]. The constraints-led approach (proposed by Newell [29][30][31]) has proven a powerful framework for identifying important factors that shape coordination during performance, throughout practice and development [25,32,33]. Interacting constraints on climbing behaviours include the individual (e.g.…”

“…A systematic review of the available literature on the application of video-based methods for the analysis of competitive swimming performance was conducted according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Metaanalyses) guidelines in an attempt to address the following review questions: (1) what are the processes involved in obtaining video-based data for swimming analysis, (2) AND (camera OR video). The inclusion criteria for these articles were: (1) that they provided sufficient detail regarding the equipment specifications and experimental setup; (2) that they include relevant data regarding the application of video based methods for the analysis of competitive swimming performance; (3) that they were published in the last five years (1 st July 2010-1 st July 2015) and (4) that they were written in the English language.…”

“…It is unsurprising therefore that much research attention is currently focused on reducing the time taken to obtain pertinent information using video and on the automation of many of the laborious manual procedures involved. 2,6,8,90 By way of example, one recently reported automated digitization approach claims to reduce processing time by a factor of ten over manual tracking methods.…”
