Introduction: Mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of substances is a serious public health problem. Deficit in social skills can be considered a risk factor at the beginning or continuity of use. Objective: To evaluate the repertoire of social skills of users of multiple and varied psychoactive substances being treated at the Center for Psychosocial Care in Alcohol and Drugs. Method: The sample was composed of individuals diagnosed with Substance-related Disorder undergoing treatment at the Center for Psychosocial Care for Alcohol and Drug Users of a city in the inner state of of São Paulo. Two investigative instruments were used: sociodemographic characterization and use questionnaire and Social Skills Inventory (IHS). The analysis of sociodemographic data used descriptive statistics and IHS analysis performed by collaborating psychologist through the IHS computerized correction system. Results: A total of 35 users, all male, 42.8% aged 31-35 years, 51.4% single participated in this study. The general average classified them with good repertoire, but individual analysis pointed out 42.8% with repertoire below average. Among deficits, the most affected factors were Factors 1 and 3 related to coping skills and self-assertion with risk and difficulties in conversation and social skills. The number of users with social skill deficits is expressive, especially in coping skills and self-assertion with risk, fact that may be directly related to relapse and abandonment of treatment. Conclusion: It is important to evaluate the repertoire of HS at the beginning of treatment, in order to contribute to the elaboration and implementation of specific training interventions.

ResumoAs habilidades sociais (HS) são consideradas fatores de risco e de proteção para o consumo de diversas substâncias, porém, essa relação ainda é pouco explorada tratando-se do uso do crack. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a relação preditiva das HS e das características sociodemográficas sobre o transtorno por uso de crack em 113 homens divididos em dois grupos: usuários de crack (US) e não usuários de substâncias (NUS). Os instrumentos utilizados foram: entrevista de características sociodemográficas e o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais. Os resultados identificaram que maiores habilidades sobre enfrentamento com risco (OR=8,6) e menores habilidades de conversação e desenvoltura social (OR=-0,19) apresentaram-se como fatores de risco para pertencer aos US. Ter filhos (OR=4,9) e ser solteiro (OR=9,6) ou separado/divorciado (OR=7,3), também aumentou a probabilidade do uso do crack. Enfatiza-se a importância de incluir, nos programas de prevenção primária ao transtorno por uso do crack, aspectos das HS específicas e questões relacionadas ao contexto familiar. Social skills have been studied in the university context due to its importance in interpersonal relationships and demands of academic's life adaptation. This study aimed to analyze the results of empirical studies about the assessment of social skills among college students, verifying instruments used, recurrent themes and results achieved. It was included articles indexed on PubMed, PsycINFO, BVS-PSI, SciELO and LILACS. Initially, 235 articles were found and, after exclusions, 29 articles were selected for the final analysis. Results showed a positive association between a good repertoire of social skills and assertiveness, sense of self-efficacy, satisfactory social interactions and academic adaptation; but not between social skills and intellectual reasoning abilities, type of course or university. Future empirical studies should consider including multimodal assessment methods, in order to help promoting guidelines for the development of protocols for social skills training. This study can contribute to advances in research in the educational area, as the school environment from preschool to college is a relevant context for the development of social skills.
