The effect of date pits (DP) in diet of broiler chickens on performance, carcass characteristics and blood parameters was studied. A total of 192 day-old commercial broiler chickens were assigned randomly to four experimental diets containing 0, 10, 20, and 30% of DP kg(1 dry matter. All diets were isonitrogenous and isocaloric, and formulated according to nutrient requirements of poultry. The birds and feed of each treatment were weighted weekly. At 6 weeks of age, bleeding from cardiac puncture performed for serum biochemical analyses. DP significantly decreased final weight, average daily gain and feed consumption (p B0.05). Additionally 20 and 30% of date fibre caused a significant increase in the feed conversion ratio. DP caused a significant decrease in thigh and increase in heart weight, as percent of dressed weight, but had no significant effect on dressed weight and kitchen carcass weight, and percentage of breast, gizzard and liver. However, there was significant difference (p B0.05) in heart and thigh percentage between treatments. The diets had no significant effect on blood parameters including cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein and very low density lipoprotein (p!0.05). Blood glucose of birds fed diet containing 20% DP was significantly more than control diet (p B 0.05), but there was no significant difference with diet containing 30% DP (p !0.05). DP could provide a cheap source of feed to birds and using 10% had no negative effects on performance, carcass characteristics and blood parameters.

This study was undertaken to determine the effect of four commercial probiotics on growth, body characteristics and haematological parameters of ostrich chicks. A total of 25 ostrich chicks (937±68.1 g) were individually allocated and fed the experimental diet for six weeks (n=5 per treatment). Experimental diets consisted of a corn/soybean meal-based diet unsupplemented (T1: Control), and four diets supplemented with probiotics according to the recommendations of the manufacturer (T2: 0.04% Bioplus 2B; T3: 0.09% Primalac; T4: 0.1% Thepax; and T5: 0.03% Protexin). Feed intake (FI), body weight (BW) and seven body characteristics (e.g. height) were measured every week. Blood samples and other body characteristics were also taken in the last week. There was an interaction effect between diet and time on all the growth variables and body characteristics (p<0.05). Both the BW and the BW gain of the ostrich chicks were, in general, higher for those fed the diet T2 than those fed the control diet (0.42, 1.07, 0.99, 1.09, 2.51, and 1.66 kg BW gain vs 0.28, 0.41, 0.83, 0.94, 1.15, and 1.15 kg BW gain at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days respectively), while for those fed the other diets containing probiotics differences were only observed at 42 days (p<0.05). Consuming probiotics over an extended period influenced several of the haematological parameters differently compared to those fed the control diet (p<0.05). T2 and T3 increased the concentration of total cholesterol (157 and 210 mg/dL respectively), when compared to those fed the control diet (119 mg/dL), while total cholesterol was slightly reduced (p>0.05) for those fed the diet containing Thepax (T4, 79 mg/ dL). In conclusion, the effects of commercial probiotics on growth performance, body characteristics and haematological parameters varied among probiotics. In this study, we particularly aimed to research the effect of supplemental humic acid on ruminal fermentation and blood variables in rams. A trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of humic acid (HA) on protozoa count, percentages of different protozoa types and blood parameters. Three male Kivircik rams with ruminal cannula were used in a Latin square design, during 22 days periods (15 days for adaptation, 7 days for collection). They received 0 control group (CG), 5 g/day or 10 g/day of HA (HA5, HA10, assay groups). HA were added to the ration with grain diet. Ration was consisted of 5% grain diet and 95 % alfalfa hay. Rumen contents collected before and, 3h and 6h after morning feeding on days 1 and 7 in each collection period were analyzed. Blood samples were also collected the same days. No significant difference in biochemical and hematological parameters (except eosinophils levels, P<0.05), variables of ruminal fluid (except sodium levels before feeding) and species of rumen protozoa organism (except the percentage Epidinium spp.) were evidenced with the addition of HA.In conclusion, we think that they might have been true the widely use in animal food of humates which don't have any negative effect on biochemical and hematological parameters in particular.
