The study aimed to determine the most appropriate irrigation scheduling for mini-type cucumber plants grown as a spring-summer cycle crop. The research was conducted in a greenhouse structure in the fields of the Research Institute in Kirklareli. Marathon cucumber plants were used as the plant material in the trials. The split plot design experimental layout in 3 replications was used in the research. Four different plant-pan coefficients (0.75, 1.00, 1.25 and 1.50) and two irrigation intervals (2 and 4 days) were applied as subplots and main plots of the study, respectively. As a result of the 3-year investigation, it was determined that yields, number of cucumber fruits, and fresh cucumber fruit weight, length and diameter increased with the increase in the irrigation water amount. The highest average total soluble solids (Brix) value of 5.0 was recorded under conditions of most severe stress imposed on the plots with lowest water application rates of Kcp 0.75. While the lowest values of 4.0-4.1 were obtained for plants growing under more favorable moisture conditions in plots with application of Kcp 1.25 and 1.50. Statistically significant positive linear relationships were obtained for irrigation water amount on one hand, and fruit number, fruit mean weight, fruit length and diameter on the other, while the relationship between water applied and TSS (Brix) was negative.

Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ev. Ogatazuiko) plants were grown in low concentration (a quarter of the control levels) or control (full strength Yamasaki's tomato solution until 7 weeks, and then 1.5 fold strength).The EC of the low nutrient solution was adjusted daily to avoid deficiency of nutrient supply. There was significant reduction in leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, crop growth rate (CGR) and leaf area index (LAI) of plants grown in low nutrient solution after 6 weeks. These differences were present for the next 9 weeks. There were no significant differences in root dry weight, total number of fruits and early fruit yield, but the total fruit yield from plants grown in low nutrient solution was 32% less than that from the control plants.The relative amount of assimilate in the fruit and the net assimilation rate (NAR) of plants grown in low nutrient solution was significantly greater than the control plants from week 6 to week 12, however, it was less than the control plants at week 15. The concentration of nutrient solution had no effect on the P, Ca and Mg content in leaves, but the N and K content in leaves was significantly lower in plants grown in low nutrient solution than in control plants at week 15. The experiment showed that it is possible to control excessive vegetative growth without the loss of fruit yield by the use of a low concentration of nutrient solution (EC 0.7-0.9 dS/m) with the frequent supplementing of N and K after topping.

Different types of cucumbers culture, respectively organic system and the system of chemical and organic fertilization can influence vegetable quality. The present study was carried out in a solarium on a farm, in six experimental variants, three replications. Three variants for fertilization systems with two cucumbers cultivars were used. The biological material used in the experiments consisted of the cultivars ‘Triumf’ F1 and ‘Mirabelle’ F1. Fertilization systems used were organic with manure, classic with chemical fertilizers and soluble complex fertilizers with fertigation. In the present research agrochemical and biochemical characteristics were analysed and also weight of fruits and yield on plants and kg/m2 were measured. Agrochemical characteristics were: contents of nitrates, phosphorus and potassium from cucumbers and the biochemical characteristics measured were: acidity, soluble carbohydrates, vitamin C and dry matter. The results showed that the fertilization with soluble complex fertilizers in addition with fertigation assured the entire necessary for the growth and fructification of cucumbers. The presence of chemical fertilizers do not influence in a negative way the nitrates, phosphorus and potassium content and the quality of consumption of cucumbers was assured. Regarding the cultivars the best yield and quality results were obtained to ‘Mirabelle’ F1.
