The research aims at treating cotton fabrics with double-shell polyurethane-chitosan photochromic microcapsules using the coating method. FTIR indicated that an acylamino group formed between the hydroxyl of cotton fabric and amino group of the chitosan shell. The surface morphology of treated cotton fabrics revealed the compact and uniform distribution of double-shell polyurethanechitosan microcapsules on cotton fabrics. Factors affecting the covalent bonding such as the citric acid (CA) and double-shell polyurethane-chitosan microcapsule (DSPCM) concentration were studied. The K/ S value of treated fabric using 9 wt% CA increased significantly; it increased by 157.0 % compared with 5 % CA. It remained almost unchanged when the CA concentration was 11 wt%. In addition, as for 7 wt% CA-treated cotton fabric, the K/S value increased by 53.5 %. The K/S values increased by 27.29 and 42.08 %, respectively, when the concentration reached 4 and 6 wt%. The color properties of samples treated with 8 wt% concentration microcapsules increased by 44.72 %. The K/S value decreased slightly after increased launderings. It decreased by 1.73 % after 30 launderings, but did not present any changes after 40 launderings; it decreased by 8.55 % after 50 launderings. The surface morphology of treated cotton fabric samples after 50 launderings remained almost the same as the original ones. It can be speculated that the covalent bonding fastness between DSPCM and cotton fabric is good. Additionally, it possesses good thermal stability. It can be concluded that 9 % citric acid concentration and 8 % DSPCM concentration allow obtaining bright and uniform color and a quick response to UV-Vis light.

ÖzBu çalışmada Türkiye'de avcılığı yapılan derin su pembe karidesi (Parapenaeous longirostris) kabuklarından kimyasal yöntem kullanılarak kitosan biyopolimeri elde edilmiştir. Üretilen kitosanın biyopolimeri antibakteriyel özellikler kazandırmak için 3 farklı konsantrasyonda dokunmuş yünlü kumaşlara daldırma metodu ile uygulanmıştır. AATCC-100 standardına göre yünlü kumaşa gerçekleştirilen antibakteriyel aktivite testinin sonuçlarına göre kitosan biyopolimeri uygulanmış kumaşta K.pneumoniae ve S.aureus bakterilerine karşı %99'un üzerinde aktivite elde edilmiştir. Sonuçlar, Türkiye'de değerlendirilemeyen ve atık olarak ayrılan karides kabuklarının tekstilde de kullanılabilecek antibakteriyel polimere dönüştürülmesi ile kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Karides atıkları, Teknik tekstiller, Antibakteriyel tekstil yapıları, Kitosan Effect of Chitosan Biopolymer Obtained from Shrimp Wastes on Antibacterial Properties of Woolen Fabrics AbstractIn this study, chitosan biopolymers were obtained by chemical method from the deep water pink shrimp (Parapenaeous longirostris) shells in Turkey. The biopolymer of the produced chitosan was applied by immersion in woven woven fabrics at 3 different concentrations to give antibacterial properties. According to the results of the antibacterial activity test performed on the woolen fabric according to the AATCC-100 standard, over 99% of the activity against bacterial strains of K.pneumoniae and S.aureus was obtained in the fabric subjected to chitosan biopolymerization. The results show that shrimp shells, which can not be assessed in Turkey and separated as waste, can be used by converting them into antibacterial polymers that can also be used on textiles.

Needleless electrospinning for scaled-up production of ultrafine chitosan hybrid nanofibers used for air filtration

Large scale ultrafine chitosan hybrid nanofibers containing TiO 2 and/or Ag nanoparticles were prepared using a needleless electrospinning method. The nanofiber production rate reached 50 g h À1 using the needleless electrospinning method, which was much higher than 0.02-1 g h À1 in the traditional single needle electrospinning method. By optimizing the spinning parameters, nanofibers with a smooth uniform morphology were obtained with diameters ranging from 25 to 60 nm and Ag nanoparticles with an average size of 2.9 nm were deposited on the surface of the nanofibers without aggregation. The hybrid nanofibers exhibited a significant increase in filtration efficiency (>99%) for removal of nanoparticle aerosols, comparable to commercial high-efficiency particulate air filters, but with a lower pressure drop and less mess. The chitosan hybrid nanofibers showed excellent antibacterial activity, e.g.97% of E. coli and 99% of S. aureus were killed within 2 h. The cross-linked nanofibers exhibited excellent water durability and maintained a stable microstructure in high humidity and in water immersion. Daily productivity can be above 1.2 kg, which makes these ultrafine nanofibers suitable for the application of wound dressing, air filtration and environmental purification.
