Abstract: Sustainable green composites were engineered from distillers’ dried grains with solubles (DDGS), a co-product from the corn ethanol industry as a sustainable filler in bioplastic matrices made from a carbon dioxide-derived poly­(propylene carbonate) (PPC) and poly­(3-hyroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) blend. “…Unfortunately, PPC is an amorphous material having a low glass transition temperature (T g ) and poor mechanical and dimensional stability, displaying intrinsic brittleness. To improve its mechanical and thermal properties [T g and thermal degradation temperature, (T d )], attempts have been made to increase its molecular weight through terpolymerization with other monomers (e.g., CHO), or through blending with other inexpensive polymers 2 of 15 [e.g., ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol (EVOH), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(lactic acid) (PLA), starch, and cellulose] [17][18][19][20][21][22].
