Abstract: -(Green algal interactions with physicochemical parameters of some manmade ponds in Zaria, northern nigeria). Green algal species and their association with physicochemical parameters in some manmade ponds in Zaria, nigeria were studied from november 2005 to august 2006. Phytoplankton and water samples were collected, preserved and analyzed using standard methods. a total of 27 green algal species divided into 16 families were recorded. shannon diversity indices ranged from 1.75 to 2.39 in all ponds, dominance… Show more

“…The S. quadricauda ABU12 strain used in this study was isolated from the Department of Biological Sciences Fish Pond, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria (Chia et al 2011;Chia and Musa 2014). The microalga was cultured in a slightly modified OECD medium (pH 7.0;OECD 1984) under controlled laboratory conditions (continuous lighting, light intensity of 40 lmol m -2 s -1 and temperature of 23 ± 2°C).…”

“…For example, nitrogen content which determines the trophic status of aquatic ecosystems is known to vary spatially and temporally in aquatic ecosystems (Chia et al 2011;Sugimoto et al 2014). Most studies of nutrient influence on atrazine toxicity have been biased toward periphyton communities (Guasch et al 2007;Murdock et al 2013;Dalton et al 2015).…”

“…Dark brown glass bottles (1 litre) were used to collect water samples for pH and dissolved oxygen, DO analyses. Polyethylene bottles were used for collection and storage of water samples for other chemical analyses (Chia et al, 2011). Each sampling bottles of one (1) liter by volume were preconditioned with 5% nitric acid and later rinsed thoroughly with distilled de-ionized water.…”
