Granulocytapheresis with modified fluid gelatin versus high‐molecular‐weight hydroxyethyl starch: a matched‐pair analysis

Abstract: These results indicate that granulocyte apheresis is feasible with MFG as well as with hetastarch and that the latter is superior for GC production, if used in the same dosage. In addition, aggregates in GC from the COBE Spectra were observed in the MFG group but not in the hetastarch group.

“…Studies indicate that MFG produces lower granulocyte yields and results in granulocyte products with comparable RBC contents but higher platelet contamination levels than HES because MFG achieves less distinct cell separation . The lower harvest efficiency of MFG leads to granulocyte concentrates of inferior quality due to granulocyte aging if more than one donation day was scheduled .…”

The lower harvest efficiency of MFG leads to granulocyte concentrates of inferior quality due to granulocyte aging if more than one donation day was scheduled . All in all, the use of MFG as a red blood cell sedimentation agent can be considered a safe and practicable method for the purification of neutrophil collections for granulocyte transfusion …”

“…The assembled dataset was used to calculate matched molecular pairs (MMPs). The matched molecular pair technique has been used in the analysis of many properties . In the case of this study, the transformed part of the molecule has no more than 10 atoms, and fewer atoms than the main scaffold of the molecule .…”
