Abstract: Objective: To evaluate and compare the behavior of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in Dupuytren disease (DD). Methods: This is an experimental study with 23 patients diagnosed with DD. Tissue collected through fasciectomy with incision type Brunner or McCash were evaluated by electrophoresis for identification of GAGs. The quantification was carried out by immunofluorescence and dosage of proteins for different types of glycosaminoglycans. The results were expressed in percentage and statistically evaluated. Results… Show more

“…This contributes to the thickening of the palmar fascia seen in the disease. Dermatan sulfate has been found to be two fold greater in tissue affecting by Dupuytren's and is known to affect collagen organization, deposition rate, and maintenance of fibers [43]. The same study also demonstrated an increased heparin sulfate composition in patients with Dupuytren's, which has been shown to play a role in cell recognition, adhesion, growth control, and angiogenesis.…”

“…Collagen lattices are optimal for assessing the evolution of isolated cellularity and the effects of factors that are soluble in them [9], but they do not comprise a "real" comparative field for DC. Alterations in the ECM of DC have been observed, for example, in dermatan sulfate [10] or in the increase of biglycan deposits [11]. Spatial reorganization of the ECM is a crucial turning point for fibroblast activity [12].…”
