The purpose of the work is the development of environmentally friendly technology of heat recovery from condensation of water vapor at a constant partial pressure of the outgoing flue gases in contact heat exchangers with a passive nozzle at thermal power plants running on natural gas, and the use of solar heaters in the block structure of an absorption refrigerating machine. Using contact heat exchangers can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas is harmful to the environment. Using solar heaters can improve the efficiency of the Li-Br absorption refrigerating machine. Ways to improve the efficiency of industrial enterprises are different. One of the main ways is to use renewable energy for heat recovery. In addition, the use of renewable energy sources reduces emissions of harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Global water shortages across all continents have led to the explosive practice of desalination. However, desalination is undeniably recognized as one of the most energy‐intensive techniques for creating a clean and safe water supply. Cost reduction in different aspects is necessary to make desalination processes affordable and accessible. In fact, the cost of water from desalination facilities is momentously impacted by the energy requirements for water production. As the water production cost cannot be separated from the issue of energy, the desalination community is continuously seeking ways to reduce energy consumption further. Current research focuses on assessing and alleviating the major energy issues by finding ways to improve the energy efficiency of desalination facilities, which would pave the way for overall cost reduction. Improving the process and the efficiencies of materials implies improved water quality and an increase in the quantity produced per unit of energy consumed. This review highlights recent emerging approaches that aim to reduce the energy consumption and, hence, the water production cost of desalination technology. In brief, the advances made in membrane science and technology, the development of emerging desalination processes and their integrated systems, as well as the use of renewable energy and energy‐recovery systems are recognized as effective and feasible solutions towards energy‐efficient desalination to address the water crisis.

Application of solar energy in water treatment processes: A review

The utilization of solar energy to drive water treatment processes is a potential sustainable solution to the world's water scarcity issue. In recent years, significant efforts have been devoted to developing and testing innovative solar based water treatment technologies, which are comprehensively reviewed in this paper. Recent developments and applications of seven major solar desalination technologies, solar photocatalysis process and solar disinfection are investigated. Potential integration of solar technologies and desalination processes are summarized. By collecting and analysing performance data from recent studies, the status of productivity, energy consumption and water production costs of different technologies is critically reviewed. The real world applicability as well as technical and economic feasibility is also evaluated. Presently, most of the solar water treatment processes are still under development with limited real applications. Economic competitiveness is among the major reasons that affect the scaling up and commercialization. It is revealed that the reported water costs of small to medium scale solar desalination plants are in the range of US$0.2-22/m 3 , much higher than conventional fossil fuel based plants. However, the estimated low water costs (US$0.9-2.2/m 3) for large scale solar based plants indicate that solar based alternatives will become potentially viable in the near future.
