Gestational Diabetes, Colorectal Cancer, Bariatric Surgery, and Weight Loss among Diabetes Mellitus Patients: A Mini Review of the Interplay of Multispecies Probiotics

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus has been steadily increasing over the past decades and is one of the most significant global public health concerns. Diabetes mellitus patients have an increased risk of both surgical and post-surgical complications. The post-surgical risks are associated with the primary condition that led to surgery and the hyperglycaemia per se. Gut microbiota seems to contribute to glucose homeostasis and insulin resistance. It affects the metabolism through body weight and energy homeostasis, integrating… Show more

“…Studies have suggested that GM plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM), and other metabolic disorders 33 , 34 . Large metagenome-wide studies have documented that disorders in gut microbial homoeostasis are associated with hyperglycaemia in China and Europe 35 , 36 . The GM composition also changed substantially with the induction of high GLU levels in RELMβ KO mice 37 and C57BL/6J mice 26 .…”

“…Thus, there is an urgent need to identify a healthy way to control weight by suppressing adipose tissue formation under a general lifestyle without dieting. Probiotics are considered to be of the greatest potential (Benioudakis et al 2021 ). LDB isolated from fermented yogurt in our laboratory showed the potential to be applied in this regard, with the hope of achieving health benefits through the use of a single strain, which was the specific aim of the present study.…”
