“…16). In this area, the fault coincides with outcrops of coarse-grained Pliocene gravelly basin fi ll that are the oldest mapped units found in the central part of the Pahrump Valley (Page et al, 2005); these units are presumably uplifted along this part of the fault system. The fault is also coincident with a zone of late Quaternary scarps and lineaments in the Pahrump Valley (Hoffard, 1991;Piety, 1996;Anderson et al, 1995;Shields et al, 1998) and with the bedrock high that separates the northeastern and southwestern subbasins (Fig.…”

“…The ranges that surround the Pahrump and Mesquite Valleys are composed of Late Proterozoic, Paleozoic, and minor Mesozoic sedimentary rocks (Fig. 2;Longwell et al, 1965;Burchfi el et al, 1974Burchfi el et al, , 1982Burchfi el et al, , 1983Page et al, 2005). In addition, the Kingston Range contains a large middle Miocene (12.4 Ma) granitic pluton (Davis et al, 1993;Calzia et al, 2000).…”

“…Several Sevier frontal thrust faults and plates compose the Spring Mountains ( Figure 3). (Figure 3) (Fleck, 1970;Page et al, 2005). The Lee Canyon thrust cuts through the central part of the Spring Mountains, placing Cambrian Bonanza King Formation atop Permian Bird Spring Formation ( Figure 3) (Fleck, 1970;Burchfiel et al, 1974).…”

“…Perhaps the best exposed thrust faults in the region, the Keystone and Contact/Red Spring/Wilson Cliffs thrust(s) traverse the entire length of the Spring Mountains and place Cambrian Bonanza King Formation atop Jurassic Aztec Sandstone (Figure 3 and 4) (Axen, 1980;Burchfiel et al, 1997;Page et al, 2005). The easternmost and structurally lowest thrust fault in the stack is the Bird Spring thrust, which runs subparallel to the Keystone thrust where it places Paleozoic rocks atop Mesozoic rocks ( Figure 3) (Hewitt, 1931(Hewitt, , 1956Page et al, 2005). As a result of Mesozoic thrusting, the rocks in the Spring Mountains experienced 36 -75 km of regional shortening (Burchfiel et al, 1974).…”
