Abstract: Host‐associated differentiation (HAD) is the occurrence of genetically distinct, host‐associated lineages. Most of the cases of HAD in phytophagous insects have been documented in specialist insects inhabiting feral ecosystems or in generalist parthenogens in agroecosystems. Herein we report HAD in the cotton fleahopper, Pseudatomoscelis seriatus (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae), a native, generalist, non‐parthenogenetic insect feeding on native wild hosts [horsemint, Monarda punctata L. (Lamiaceae) and woolly cr… Show more

“…The entire state is divided into two regions with respect to annual precipitation as described by Barman et al. (2012): regions where annual precipitation is less than 26–30 inches (light gray), and those with precipitation more than 30 inches (medium gray) are indicated on the map.…”

“…2005; Barman et al. 2012). Perhaps some of the best-studied cases of insect HAD are those involving apple maggot flies ( Rhagoletis pomonella ) on apples and hawthorns (Bush 1969; Feder et al.…”

“…Despite its intriguing overwintering biology and host-associated differentiation (Barman et al 2012), information is limited on the ecology of cotton fleahopper overwintering in a semi-arid environment such as the Texas High Plains.…”

“…Native herbivore populations that shift onto agricultural crops can become genetically differentiated from populations that remain on the original host plant (Vialatte et al, 2005;Michel et al, 2010;Lavandero et al, 2011 Midamegbe et al, 2011;Barman et al, 2012;Bourguet et al, 2014). Because host shifts create new ecological opportunities for herbivores, population can diverge via ecological speciation in sympatry (Bush, 1969;Berlocher and Feder, 2002).…”
