Abstract: Background: Fusarium head blight (FHB), primarily caused by Fusarium graminearum, is a major threat to wheat production and food security worldwide. Breeding stably and durably resistant cultivars is the most effective approach for managing and controlling the disease. The success of FHB resistance breeding relies on identification of an effective resistant germplasm. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using the highdensity wheat 90 K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assays to better under… Show more

“…Another QTL on 5DL, associated with SEV, was identified in a diverse AMP containing germplasm from China, Italy, Japan, and Mexico, where the QTL occurred in the 546.1‐ to 547.3‐Mb region, whereas the QTL we identified occurred at 548.3 Mb. The QTL identified in the study was also associated with resistance to Soil‐borne wheat mosaic virus in wheat (Hu et al., 2020).…”

“…Most QTL identified for FHB resistance on chromosome 5B were identified on the long arm, particularly for INC (Hu et al., 2020; Liu et al., 2009; Yu et al., 2008). The only novel QTL for FHB resistance on 5BS was identified in an AMP of Chinese and Japanese landraces, and it was associated with SEV (Li et al., 2016).…”

“…Hence, the association mapping panel genotyped here is sufficient with low numbers of phenotyped accessions (n = 149) to identify loci relevant to Fusarium disease resistance, and shows that existing Brazilian germplasm, such as the variety Trigo-BR24, potentially carry type 2 resistance alleles at Fhb2. GWAS for FHB resistance has been previously conducted using various germplasm sources, including accessions predominantly from the USA (Arrunda et al 2016;Liu et al 2019;Tessmann et al 2019;Wang et al 2017), Europe (Kollers et al 2013;Miedaner et al 2011) and Asia (Li et al 2016;Wu et al 2019), as well as panels derived from accessions around the world (Hu et al 2020). While Fhb2 has previously been reported using bi-parental populations, our work is the first time that Fhb2 has been identified by GWAS as far as we are aware.…”

“…FHB resistance is quantitatively inherited, influenced by both additive and non-additive genetic effects ( Venske et al, 2019 ; Ma et al, 2020 ; Ollier et al, 2020 ). Quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are used extensively to identify QTLs for FHB resistance in wheat, for possible application in marker-assisted selection ( Miedaner et al, 2019 ; Venske et al, 2019 ; Buerstmayr et al, 2020 ; Hu et al, 2020 ; Ollier et al, 2020 ).…”
