“…The fat mass and obesity‐associated gene ( FTO ; ID 79068, OMIM accession number 610966) is composed of nine exons which span over 400 kb on chromosome 16 (Deng et al, 2018; Frayling et al, 2007; Huang et al, 2011). Polymorphisms in the FTO first intron are significantly associated with increased risk of adverse metabolic traits, including type 2 diabetes (Hubacek et al, 2018) hypertension (Pausova et al, 2009) metabolic syndrome (Freathy et al, 2008; Sedaghati‐khayat et al, 2018) and triglyceride levels (da Fonseca et al, 2020). A number of studies have demonstrated close correlation between FTO variants rs9939609, rs1421085, and rs7817449, which are almost in complete linkage, and the occurrence of obesity and body mass index (BMI) in both children and adults (Ahmad et al, 2010; Cho et al, 2020; Dina et al, 2007; Ehrlich & Friedenberg, 2016; He et al, 2014; Khan et al, 2018; Liu et al, 2013; Manco et al, 2019; Scuteri et al, 2007).…”
